Even though there are no admission qualifications and state laws vary greatly, Executive Protection is one of the only industries in which practitioners claim responsibility for their client’s safety and well-being.
Executive protection training is divided into three categories: soft skills, hard skills, and specialty skills. We shall go through these abilities in-depth here.
Soft skills
The wonderful thing about soft skills is that they can be learned in about a week. Although this week just covers the basics of executive protection, the concepts and essentials can be examined.
This Pacific West Academy training may need to be redone every five years or so to keep current, and further training should be conducted regularly. Although many of the drills are identical, the nuances of executive protection vary. PSD should be considered a protective specialty.
Competencies in Hard Skills
A driving school should allow you to drive outside of your normal borders, drive an armored vehicle if one is available, practice PIT maneuvers and counter-pits, ramming, motorcade driving, close-quarters driving, and other similar actions. Furthermore, the course you pick should give you everything you need for offensive and defensive driving talents in your current or future employment.
Unarmed fighting skills should start as a style of combat that you may learn during the day and use in the parking lot every time you go out. If you are learning a method or an art, it will take a long time to master it and may not be helpful if you need it right away. Empty hand fighting, the use of improvised weapons, and the ability to stay on your feet or quickly escape to a safe position if you fall should be emphasized.
One of the most crucial is the ability to fire. It is perishable, yet it performs a function. While we should be able to reason our way out of danger 1000 times more than we should be able to shoot our way out of it, proficiency with our weapons is vital. If your Pacific West Academy specializes in shooting, you must attend all classes regularly.
Specialty Skills
To attain and sustain expertise in PSD, protective intelligence, counter-surveillance, and medical specializations, for example, more training and a full-time dedication to the specialization are required.
Furthermore, in the medical area, national credentials are sometimes augmented by state standards. Most professional certifications require continuing education units or periodic renewal to maintain. This is also a good thing since it improves the industry by bringing in trained employees and knowledge.
